Em is also holding what I pray is a bag full of Thai takeout. I am hungry enough to eat the little jeweled apple clip in her hair. I look like a filthy mop head covered in the fading glitter eight-year-old Lucy Nguyen decided would be a fun last-day surprise.
Emily and I met about nine months ago in an online political forum, where it was clear we were both childless because of all the time we spent there ranting into the void. We met up in person for venting over coffee and became immediate fast friends. Or, maybe more accurately, I decided she was amazing and invited her to coffee again and again until she agreed. Emily works at Riverview teaching fifth a true warrior among us , and when a position opened for a third grade teacher there, I sprinted down to the district with my application in hand.
So desperate was I for the coveted spot in a top-ten school that only once I got out of my car and started the march up the steps to HR did I register that I was 1 braless and 2 still wearing my Homer Simpson slippers. She sighs and walks to my desk, retrieving a hammer from my dalmatian-print box of tools so I can more easily pry the metal from the plaster.

PROLOGUE HAZEL CAMILLE BRADFORD Before we get started, there are a few things you should know about me: 1. I am both broke and lazy—a terrible combination. I was addicted to their story from start to finish. I adore Josh as he wasn't embarrassed about Hazel and her crazy outfits or personality, he accepted her and everything she brought to the table. Including the zoo animals.
Then Hazel never thought she would find someone who accepted her whole heartedly because not everyone gets the HEA and she was okay with that. Josh is the picture perfect guy and she is Hazel. She never thought she was the one for Josh but Hazel was exactly what Josh needed, it just took him a little while to catch up. Not really sure how I feel about this one. I found it to be a bit of a disappointment, but I think that is because I had been building it up and wanting to read it for a long time.
The characters were reasonably likeable, but both were overly extreme versions of what they were meant to be. Hazel was massively eccentric at points and had me rolling my eyes and thinking "what the hell? Alternatively, Josh was so straight laced at times, I found myself wondering if he actually liked to have fun, although I did find him the more likeable of the pair.
I haven't read a lot of romance stories, so I could be wrong, but this felt like a relatively unique premise, which was great. I must admit, however, that like a lot of romance stories, it seemed to thrive off miscommunication and misunderstandings. If the characters had only spoken to each other and been honest, they could have got together so much sooner.
I did like the fact that it started off as a friendship though and wasn't a love or lust at first sight kind of situation. Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable, ok read, but I wouldn't be in a rush to read it again.
Report abuse. The plot line in one line: Josh and Hazel, who briefly knew each other at college, meet years later and become best friends who go on double dates, only to find they really want to snag each other! The good and the bad: Iâm a big fan of Christina Lauren but while I did generally enjoy reading this book, it lacked the addictive qualities of their âBeautifulâ series.
The hero and heroine are delightfully different from the usual stars of romance â âcrazyâ teacher Hazel is off the wall, and Josh is a much more introverted Korean physiotherapist.
I liked both characters, although Josh didnât quite match up to Korean hero Michael in Helen Hoangâs âThe Kiss Quotientâ and Hazel was at times a little too extreme in her zaniness - honestly, in what world would anyone store vases in the oven because theyâre afraid theyâll knock them over?
The book is written with to the authorsâ usual immaculate standards if you can get over the annoyance of Hazel repeatedly referring to Josh by his full name but lacks the usual levels of sexual tension. When the sex did come, it wasnât written to the authorsâ usual graphic level, which is not necessarily a problem but when you are accustomed to some naga-chilli-level rumpy pumpy scenes from an author, you feel a bit deflated when the climactic moment is practically skipped over in one page.
Iâve never been drawn to the trope of friends falling in love but the blurb sold this book to me. The storyline was fine but nothing by way of exception. Some of it was a bit contrived â I found it unrealistic that two people who fancied each other would go on a series of blind double-dates and not just date each other! Iâd get it if Josh and Hazel had been best mates for years and didnât want to put their friendship at risk, but they literally knew each other for a bit at college and have just reunited after ten years â there is no friendship to risk!
So look, I wouldnât advise anyone against reading this book â itâs a nice little romance. But if you want fraught sexual tension and carnal scenes that make your knickers damp and your mouth drool, read Christina Laurenâs âBeautifulâ series. Rating: âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ Steam: ð¥ð¥ð¥ Omg omg MY FIRST 5 star BOOK OF ðð¤ªð I am so happy right now, honestly. This book was just so good.
It was SO funny - like maybe one-of-the-funniest-books-Iâve ever-read kind of funny. This is easily one of Christina Laurenâs best books - up there with Love and Other Words for me!! This has friends-to-lovers which is written so well. It all just felt right - like the timing of everything and their thought processes all just made sense. I often donât like âquirkyâ characters because authors often overwrite them by making them quirky for the sake of it and it becomes all very unnatural.
Let me tell you, that is definitely not the case in this book - Hazel is just so much fun to read and one of my fave heroines! And Josh ð¥ºð¥ºð¥º my fave cinnamon rollð𥺠he was just everything. I would HIGHLY recommend this book!! Q: If you were in love with your best friend, what would you do? But, at a friends barbecue they reconnect and start setting each other up on dates that end up failing. Is there a reason between the failed dates and the feelings growing between them?
Christina Lauren are quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. I love their writing style and I cannot wait to grow my collection. This is my second book of theirs that Iâve read and the characters are absolutely perfect. Josh and Hazel are the perfect match for each other and balance each otherâs personalities perfectly!! The ending was perfect and I just loved it all.

Thereâs no other way to describe it, this book is just pure fun. Between the adorable, quirky characters, the witty banter, and the slow burning romance that was building between these two friends, I was completely immersed in this story and loving every single minute of it.
Itâs always enjoyable to read a book with a cast of characters that end up feeling more like friends than simply names on pages. I felt as though I knew Hazel and Josh. Come on, who wouldnât want to hang out with Hazel?!
She was a wonderful character. She was unapologetically herself. She was well aware that she was a little out there, eccentric, boisterous, over the top, and that she was a handful, but she embraced the qualities that made her uniquely her, and she was such a refreshing character. This friends-to-lovers romance worked on so many different levels, but what made it so much fun was that Josh was the complete opposite of Hazel.
He was the organized to her chaos. He was reserved, she was a fun-loving ball of energy. She blew into his life and made herself right at home. But despite having amazing chemistry, they were determined not to date each other, no, instead they were going to set each other up on blind double dates.
How did that turn out for them? Well, all I will say is that it was extremely amusing for the readers. It should come as no surprise that this fabulous writing duo knows how to create fabulous fictional duos. This book was on my list of anticipated books of , and it certainly did not disappoint.
It was an absolute pleasure to read, in fact, I could have easily spent another three hundred or so pages with these special characters. This story has EVERyTHING! I cannot count the times I LAUGHED OUT LOUD!
The story just flows there was never a dull moment. This was exactly what I needed at the moment. I was in a major book funk, and Christina Lauren has pulled me out! These two characters work so well together, their banter is perfection. They are both strong characters, funny characters, and deeply loving characters!
Hazel is the BOMB! Everyone needs a Hazel in their lives, someone who makes you enjoy life, live life, and feel life. I completely loved her character. Josh is the perfect best friend. Always there when you need him, comforting, supporting, just an all around great guy. The side kicks Emily and Dave, are great counter parts for them as well. I haven't read a CL story since, BB series, now I'm thinking I need to go back and revisit their other books.
Great story, just the perfect ROMCOM!! One person found this helpful. The story itself was great. Always a big fan of Christina Lauren. But the condition of the book itself?
Very poor. I had a giant crease through the over of the book and edges of the spin look as if someone carried those around and read it already. For a brand new book I wasnât thrilled with that. Especially because the cover is mostly black meaning to really see those scuff marks since they turn white. I absolutely loved this book. It was so cute and was a great read. A little bit too much of will they, won't they but that's ok.
